Jones Petrie Rafinski worked with the Town of Walkerton and the Walkerton-Lincoln Township Public Library to design a new media center. In order to meet the requirements of the OCRA Grant project funding, the project the design had to incorporate new ideas and concepts for natural light, efficient LED lighting, and HVAC systems. The Town and Library were also in need of updating their existing undersized and outdated library and needed additional space to provide youth development programs for the community.
The proposed building consists of a 5,300 square foot wood framed structure with an outdoor patio space. A centralized open area, large meeting room, and teen and children’s room provides flexibility for a number of youth outreach and general public programs. The new media center design aimed to provide a warm, comfortable atmosphere with energy efficient building systems and provisions for incorporating new technology for the various building functions.
