Oxford Streetscape Improvements

Fort Wayne, Indiana

As one of the major neighborhood corridors in Southeast Fort Wayne, Oxford Street is an active corridor with a mix of commercial and residential uses.

JPR was hired by the City of Fort Wayne to design a more attractive, accessible, safe, and vibrant streetscape along a 1-mile stretch of the Oxford corridor. Construction of the project will be broken into three phases: Lafayette Street to Hanna Street, Hanna Street to Oliver Street, and Oliver Street to Anthony Boulevard.

As part of the design, traffic calming solutions and the implementation of pedestrian amenities are being explored, curbs and walkways are being reconstructed to meet ADA standards, and stormwater management is being updated with green infrastructure in mind. The project scope also includes identifying additional right-of-way acquisition as needed, updating pedestrian-scale lighting, and creating an identity for the corridor.

Community engagement is a critical component for the success of this project. JPR developed surveys to gain valuable input from the community and is facilitating multiple engagement meetings and workshops for stakeholders and individuals who live and/or work within the Oxford neighborhood.

JPR will provide design, construction documents, specifications, estimates, and construction administration for all phases of this project. When complete, Oxford Street will aid the neighborhood in leveraging new economic opportunities, providing safe and accessible mobility, and improving quality of life for all residents. Construction is scheduled to begin mid to late 2024.
