Macy-Allen Township Volunteer Fire Station

Macy, Indiana

The Town of Macy, a close-knit rural community, recognized the urgent need for a new facility to support its all-volunteer fire department. With a growing scope of emergency responsibilities — including fire response, EMS, auto extrication, water rescues, and grain bin incidents — the outdated and deteriorating station no longer met operational, training, or accessibility needs. In 2016, the Town partnered with JPR to conduct a feasibility study, which revealed significant structural issues and space constraints that hindered emergency readiness. Following the study, JPR was asked to assist in identifying a suitable site and developing the design for a new fire station.

JPR guided the Town through the entire process, from design to securing funding from OCRA and USDA. Despite pandemic-era construction challenges, the project was completed in 2023, delivering a modern 3,360-square-foot fire station with four apparatus bays, a dedicated training room, advanced HVAC systems, radio and office space, and room for community engagement.

The new facility significantly improved emergency response capabilities, ensured compliance with ADA and safety codes, and created an inviting, functional space that supports volunteer recruitment and training.
