North Elkhart Gateway Implementation Strategy

This major entrance into the City of Elkhart was facing considerable challenges. Numerous commercial vacancies were eroding the tax base, the interior site configuration was inadequate for today’s retail venues, and the area projected a bland and unimpressive welcoming.

The development team assembled for this project concentrated on re-activating the retail center in order to serve visitors and residents, along with creating a memorable gateway into Elkhart from the Toll Road and leveraging visitor spending from the hotel complex. These strategies combined to produce a sound and viable plan that will guide the area for years to come.
