JPR was engaged to develop a detailed landscape and irrigation plan for an Indiana University healthcare facility, with the dual goals of meeting Fort Wayne City Code requirements and enhancing the visual and experiential quality of the site. The design needed to align with the architectural character of the building while also creating a setting that felt inviting, calming, and appropriate for a healthcare environment. Recognizing the diverse reasons patients, families, and staff may be on-site, the landscape was envisioned not just as a regulatory requirement, but as a meaningful part of the visitor experience—offering beauty, comfort, and a sense of tranquility.
One of the central challenges of the project was balancing aesthetic appeal with ease of maintenance and strict budget parameters. JPR addressed this by carefully curating a planting palette that offers texture, seasonal interest, and visual cohesion, while also requiring minimal upkeep. The irrigation plan was integrated to ensure long-term plant health without unnecessary complexity or cost. The result is a landscape that does more than satisfy city code—it contributes positively to the emotional atmosphere of the site, supports sustainability, and adds lasting value to the healthcare facility and the surrounding community.
