What was thought to be a simple parking lot expansion design for Maple City Chapel quickly grew into an extensive stormwater study for the Church and its surrounding developments.
Instead of a small site design the project became a complete stormwater study that included both a watershed, encompassing almost 50-acres, and a wetland. The existing watershed drained into the centralized retention and wetland area which was significantly undersized in capacity. The JPR team analyzed the existing conditions, calculated the capacity, and compared it to how much storage would be required for the entire area plus any site improvements. From there, a proposed design was presented to the client and the City.
Significant efforts went into the wetland delineation investigation, and constant coordination with IDEM was maintained to confirm the wetland boundary and achieve as little disturbance as possible.
JPR was able to present a solution that IDEM, the City, and Maple City Chapel all felt comfortable with. This solution allowed Maple City Chapel to expand their parking and address stormwater storage issues, all while protecting the centralized wetland area.
