As a continuation of the City of Auburn’s downtown revitalization, this 9th Street project focused on portions of the pedestrian core south of the courthouse. The implementation of site amenities and new sidewalks, which incorporated the aesthetics and function of a previous streetscape project at 6th and Main, provided safe and inviting areas for visitors. It also promoted new business for local establishments, and as a part of the downtown core, it elevated the streetscape to better host annual festivals and cater to more visitors.
The design included new sidewalks with paver bands separating pedestrian and vehicular areas. This helped to provide a safe, walkable downtown. Vintage-style lighting was utilized to incorporate the character of the downtown redevelopment, and the light poles were equipped with brackets for seasonal banners, speakers, and electrical outlets for festivals.
Previously, streetscape improvements had been completed in front of the Brew Coffee House and Auburn City Steakhouse. These additional 9th Street improvements incorporated and finalized the redevelopment of those sections, providing a consistent aesthetic along both 9th Street and Main Street – setting the example for future phases.
