Utility Billing / Accounting

Jones Petrie Rafinski has an opening in the utility billing department located in the South Bend office. This position is responsible for clerical and accounting work performed in conjunction with our accounting department. The team member occupying this position will be responsible for the utility billing records and accounts, cash receipts and customer service. There may be work projects that need to be produced in a timely manner and other office tasks as deemed necessary.

Duties include but are not limited to:
  • Receives utility payments; posts in utility management software;
  • Processes billings and invoices;
  • Processes utility account collection including filing liens with the appropriate Recorder’s office;
  • Processes open and close requests for service forms;
  • Produces letters, memoranda, reports, tabulations and other materials as needed
  • Sorts and files correspondence, checks and other materials, numerically, alphabetically, or by other prescribed methods;
  • Responsible for maintaining records and files
  • Provides customer service to both client and customers by answering telephone and assisting with inquiries

Qualifications and Requirements:
  • A minimum of an Associate Degree in Accounting; however, 2-5 years of experience in accounting or banking will be considered.
  • Typical administrative practices and processes associated with accounting;
  • General computer operations, specifically associated with complete set of Microsoft Office software, with excellent knowledge of Excel;
  • Able to maintain a pleasant and courteous demeanor working in a fast pace environment;
  • Establish and maintain an effective working relationship with all levels of management, clients, customers, co-workers, and the general public;
  • Communicate effectively in person, by telephone, and by e-mail;
  • Meet deadlines and perform multiple tasks under pressure;
  • Ability to work and perform in a multi-task environment;
  • Basic ability to read and requires the basic knowledge of grammar and spelling;
  • Basic math, in order to calculate fees, work hours, and sufficient math to complete reports and basic bookkeeping skills;
  • Able to perform multiple task efficiently and applies knowledge of procedures to fulfill essential job duties;
  • Ability to organize, prioritize, and carry out office work with minimal supervision;
  • Maintain a professional appearance and attire.
