NIBCO WATER AND ICE PARK

      LOCATION: Elkhart, Indiana
      BUDGET: $3.2 Million
      CLIENT: City of Elkhart
      PROJECT MANAGER: Chris Chockley

This park, designed by JPR in conjunction with Leedy Cripe Architects, was the first of its kind in the nation due to its 14 foot wide meandering ice skating path. The park is connected to the Riverwalk Commons, a river walk trail park system in Downtown Elkhart which JPR was also involved in. It contains three buildings including a concession stand, warming room, skate rentals and an equipment room containing the refrigeration system. This unique facility doubles as a splash pad and small event venue during the city’s world-renowned jazz festival. There are approximately eight miles of refrigerant piping within the concrete that allows for the creation of ice.
