The L.P. Frans Stadium is home to the Hickory Crawdads, a double A minor league baseball team in North Carolina. It is in need of a major renovation. Fan attendance and revenue has been in steady decline. The team owners approached JPR to provide design services for the renovation. The first step was to provide a stadium evaluation and master plan with recommended improvements and new amenities. A preliminary cost estimate was also developed to aid in the planning and programming phase. The existing stadium is limited in the amount of seat/suite options and also additional entertainment amenities and venues. The location of the stadium is out of town without any nearby complimentary entertainment venues such as restaurants and bars. This demands that in order for the stadium to be successful it must become an all inclusive destination location. The master plan included features such as outdoor suites, large group areas, kids fun zone, splash pad and playground. A 360° concourse, renovated cafe/bar outdoor suites, and improved indoor suites.

Currently the first phase of the renovation is completed. The improvements that were made included renovated suites, replaced stadium seating, renovated cafe/bar with outdoor seating venue, premium club seating, renovated picnic pavilion, a new group picnic zone, new way finding signage package and outdoor suites.
